This Year's Model Updates:

The 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe gets two new engines and six-speed transmissions that deliver both better performance and improved fuel economy. There are minor exterior styling revisions, including new taillights and grille. Inside, Bluetooth hands-free cell phone connectivity, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and a USB audio input jack are now standard on all models. The side curtain airbags now incorporate a rollover sensor. Finally, the third-row seat option has been dropped.

Pros:
  • Attractive interior, top-notch crash test scores, lots of features at an agreeable price, great warranty.
Cons:
  • Ride quality on SE and Limited models may be too firm for some buyers.

  • Not really pleased - 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Bought the Santa Fe after quite a bit of research. Cant tow even close the half of the listed weight, listed a 19 gallon gas tank, can only put 17 in bone dry. Already have a leak that needs to be repaired on the timing cover. Was told it is an issue they are having with the 3.3 engines. Lots of bang for the buck but not happy with there already being mechanical issues.

Nice vehicle overall was my first impression since I was seeking a larger similar to previous crossover. I was wrong. Transmission bangs at low speeds and dealer wont acknowledge a problem. It is well documented and Hyundai must step up or count me out.

  • Pleased so far - 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

My new 2010 Santa Fe has about 4000 miles on it so far. Overall I am pleased with the car but there are some things i dont like about it. The ride is very rough. From the factory the tires had 36 lbs of pressure. Dropping the pressure to 30lbs helped a lot but the ride is still stiffer than that of a 2010 Rav 4 Limited. The V6 engine is very powerful but the gas pedal has excessive lag. Step on the gas and wait a 2 seconds before the engine RPM picks up. You will find many complaints online regarding the transmission but I havent experienced any problems yet (fingers crossed). Rav 4 would have been my first choice if it wasnt for that swing out rear door.

  • Some Regrets - 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Traded in a Toyota van which had great ride quality and am disappointed in sante fes ride. Very stiff ride which I did not discover upon test driving. Interior is noisy, could be the leather seats rubbing together and vibrating. A/c controls are more complicated than they need to be. Engine seems to have some hesitation upon acceleration. Black interior is more dark gray than black which I like better. Anxious to see how it handles in snow. Lots of features on this SUV for the money but not sure I will keep it for the long term due to ride quality and interior noise. Interior comfort is more important to me than all the bells and whistles that this car has. Not sure it was right car for me.

  • Gutsy, Sharp, Eye Catcher - 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

So far so good went from a Toy Camry always wanted a SUV AWD. Cant wait for snow. Choppy ride and not best gas mileage yet only 1200 miles. Comfortable and love the blue tooth. Eye catcher black in color, nice mags.

  • Too good to be true? - 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Im sad to report that Im having the same transmission issues that others seem to be having and that is rough shifting (a definite "THUMP" into gear) from 1-2 when the engines cold. Has happened on rare occasions from 2-3 and 3-4. Shifting is fine when car is warm up. Just had transmission "reset" by dealer for 2nd time yesterday, but it thumped softly this morning. Bought the car in May & dont think this started until the weather turned cold at night in the fall.

  • Service Status - 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Be aware the manufacture allows the local dealership to decide whether the car needs to be serviced under normal conditions or severe conditions. This could double the cost of ownership for you. This is according to a response I received from Hyundai.

  • A really nice vehicle - 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

Had this vehicle for a year now, and I really like it. Mileage could be a little better, and one annoyance is that it does not have an outside-temperature gauge. Very nice ride, particularly on the highway, lots of usable interior room, and it handles well. Brake feel is a little soft. Did have a problem with the splines on the intermediate shaft to the transmission shearing at 20,000 km, but was fixed under warranty. Our dealer treated us well, and we have since leased a 2011 Elantra from them.

  • Good compromise - 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

There is nothing exceptional about the Santa Fe, however it looks nice, accelerates briskly, has a great warranty and gets decent fuel economy. The interior is mediocre but functional. The seats are comfortable and the ride quality is acceptable. Heated cloth seats on the SE are a bonus. Over the initial 3187 miles, I averaged 21.53 mpg with about 50% highway driving. Prior to purchasing, we test drove the Pilot, Highlander, RAV4, Murano and Forester. The Pilot and Highlander were more desirable-- but would have cost several thousand dollars extra with similar options. After the incentives, we paid $24,000 for the V-6 SE and feel like it was by far the superior value.

  • Jury is out - 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

I have owned my Santa Fe since 5/10 and have 15k on it since then Im happy to say that ive not experienced any of the transmission problems others have. I do have a service appointment next week to fix a problem with the rear door locks, they stopped working when using the key fob. Im a bit unhappy with all the doors and door hardware on this vehicle in regards to quality and am unsure how it will hold up over time (not optimistic). Other than that Im happy with the driving experience and mpg.
